2008 GSM Guatemala Summer Youth Soccer Camps
Children in Guatemala attend school
usually in a morning session or in an afternoon session. GSM currently holds our normal programs in the morning or
the afternoon at a variety of locations in Guatemala City.
The idea of camps is to hold them
during the school break from mid-
October through November. This is a
perfect six week window to reach many who may not usually come to programs.
Our hope is to have two coaches and
three assistants per location, with two morning locations and two afternoon locations per week! The camps run five days in a row, Monday through Friday.
The week includes Bible teaching, full salvation message, as well as teaching of soccer skills. What a great way to love the children of the different areas.
What is different with the camps is that there are many new locations where GSM has never had a program. This is exciting
both for us and the children. The camps are an excellent way to see where future
programs would be a success.
NEED YOUR PRAYERS and HELP
With these special programs going
on we do have some special needs that you can be praying for and possibly could be of
help with.
A. We will be traveling a lot! That
means a great deal of traffic, directions, detail remembering for coaches, and a lot of gasoline! With gas over $5 a gallon,
that adds up!
B. We will be doing a lot of
coordinating with many different fields - making arrangements with field owners, Directors, schools, churches, and organizations - including a children’s home.
C. We are hoping to give the
children that come a healthy snack or meal each day. This will be no small task. With most of the programs being in poor areas, the children often arrive not having anything that day. They have no energy to learn or play.
D. We will need a lot of extra
volunteer coaches and assistants! Please pray for great helpers.
